Good news for all TVS Akula 310 (TVS Apache RR 310 S) fans! TVS Motor has finally confirmed now through official sources that the production version of the fully-faired TVS Akula 310, as TVS Apache RR 310 S, will be launched in July 2017 at just under INR 2 lakh. Prices are expected to be in the range of INR 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) to INR 1.8 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Considering, the motorcycle has been spotted many times undergoing final testing, the company could try and launch the motorcycle sometime in July. When contacted, TVS officials refused to confirm any launch date.
The TVS Akula 310 (Apache RTR 300) Overview:
Unveiled as a concept at the Auto Expo 2016, the TVS Apache RR 310 S (TVS Akula 310) is a fully-faired version of the BMW G310R, which has been co-developed by BMW Motorrad and TVS Motors. The motorcycle will use the same engine as found in the G310R but could be tuned for a stronger top end in favour of track-focussed performance.
Once launched, the TVS Apache RR 310 S (TVS Akula 310) will be the most powerful and fastest motorcycle from TVS. What has also been promised by TVS is that the TVS Apache RR 310 S (TVS Akula 310) will be a near-track-focused motorcycle which will be something similar to what the KTM’s RC series offered. So expect a taut chassis and sharp handling. In the concept version, the bike’s fairing, tank and other panels were crafted from carbon fibre.
TVS is expected to price the Apache RR 310 S (Akula 310) under Rs 2 lakh, which will make it an exceptional value-for-money offering. In terms of power, the motorcycle will sit at par with the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and between the KTM RC200 and the RC390. If TVS can get the price right and ensure that the design and features are retained largely, the Akula 310 will have a bright chance of selling well.
The TVS Apache RR 310 S (TVS Akula 310) Design:
On the design front, the TVS Apache RR 310 S (TVS Akula 310) will be unlike any other motorcycle in the market and the only real competitor to it will be the KTM RC390 since both motorcycles exude an outright focus on performance. The word Akula is derived from Russian, wherein it means shark and looking at the pictures of the TVS Apache RR 310 S (TVS Akula 310), one can’t ignore the resemblance. The sharp and hunkered-down fairing with a raked up rear bears a kinetic design, which reflects motion and aggression even at a standstill.
The TVS Apache RTR 310 sports a chiseled fuel tank, split seats, upside-down front forks and a rear mono-shock. The bike gets twin projector headlamps, LED taillights digital instrument cluster, tall windscreen, clip-on handlebars and LED turn indicators. The bike comes shod with Pirelli Pilot Street tyres while the 5-spoke alloy wheels, swingarm and the side-mounted upswept exhaust system are shared with the BMW G310R. The overall design of the TVS Apache RTR 310 is proportionate and provides a big bike feel.
With a very aggressive and sharp styling. Sadly the production version will miss out on some features to keep costs competitive. That said, we believe there will be no compromise on quality and the bike is also likely to retain most of the aggressive styling cues of the concept version. Moreover, there will be some extensive usage of strong and light-weight aluminium bits as well, which translates into a lighter overall weight.
The TVS Apache RR 310 S (TVS Akula 310) Engine:
The TVS Apache RR 310 S (TVS Akula 310) will be powered by a 313cc liquid-cooled, single cylinder, fuel-injected engine jointly developed with BMW Motorrad. The same engine will also power the new BMW G310R, BMW Motorrad’s smallest displacement motorcycle and one developed at the TVS Motor Company plant near Hosur in Tamil Nadu.
On the BMW, the motor has been tuned to churn out 34 bhp of power at 9500 rpm and 28 Nm of torque at 7500 rpm, paired to a 6-speed transmission. It’ll be interesting to see though how the same motor is tuned on the Akula to meet the requirements. Given the full-fairing and a stronger top-end, the TVS Apache RR 310 S (TVS Akula 310) would have a higher top speed than the BMW G310R, possibly at the cost of driveability. However, TVS Motors hasn’t disclosed any official specifications yet.
The TVS Apache RR 310 S (TVS Akula 310) Features:
The supersport will come with USD front forks, an adjustable rear monoshock, projector headlamps, LED indicators, tail lights, daytime running lights (DRLs), clip-on handlebar, radial callipers, aluminium sub-frame, stiff space frame chassis, cast alloy swing-arm and a steering damper for additional stability.
The bike will also feature new all-digital instrument cluster that will be loaded with track friendly information recorders like lap timer, 0-100 kmph timer, gear shift indicator and much more. Interestingly, the console looks very similar to the one seen on the current KTM Duke and RC range but is an LCD unit. Although, we cannot promise that you’ll see all of these features in the production version as well but dual channel ABS could be a part of the feature list.
